I have had a long and good life. My long perspective view from many angles and times reminds me that the one sustaining thing for me has been my connection and respect for nature. The patterns, designs, colors, textures and even voids found there cannot be improved upon. When I look at something I am inspired to represent, I marvel at where it came from – the bird’s nest, the oyster shell, the horseshoe crab.

 

I like to draw things that are taken for granted - not always pretty but maybe assumed that they are not important. Who knows? I like to take black and white and all the grays, sepias and neutrals in between and see what I can do with them. I have had an occasional art class along the way – not many, so I simply try to find tools that work. I don’t draw anything that is scientifically correct but I look at the real thing for inspiration and remind myself that the ugliest and least significant object may be the most meaningful in the big picture.

 

I was born in Tallahassee and have lived here all these years. My family has been here since 1835. It has been a good place for me. Fortunately, I have traveled a bit, shared friendships with diverse folks and resisted having a provincial attitude. I still do what I can to make it an even better place.

 

I have a degree in Human Development, an M.S. in Interior Design and owned a business in the field for 35 years which gave me constant exposure to beautiful things. As an adjunct instructor at FSU in the Interior Design school, I shared my professional experiences with both undergraduate and graduate students.

 

In my practice, I never felt a job was complete without art no matter how valid the furnishings were or how well the space functioned. The art didn’t have to be expensive but always of quality. If the budget allowed, that was a plus but there’s always good work that’s affordable. Art is like the icing on the cake.
