I have always been interested in art. I took numerous art classes in school and minored in Art History in college. Unfortunately, I was only an admirer of art for a number of years. Several years ago, my wife gave me a watercolor set for Christmas and I have not put the brushes down since. I have taken several classes in watercolors; however, most of my progress has come through the process of painting, painting, and more painting.

 

I paint because I like to paint. I enjoy the entire process - from obtaining source material to hanging a finished painting on a wall. I paint mainly from photographs I have taken myself. I do not try to make a photographic reproduction of an image, but instead want to take the best elements of the image - the parts that communicate to me - and enhance them through color, design, value and surface texture in order to create something better. In attempting to achieve something better, I hope I have created not just a pretty scene, but also something that is visually compelling.
